The county seat of Bergen County, Hackensack is a diverse multicultural town with a wide variety of housing styles including many low-rise and high-rise condominium, co-op and townhouse apartment buildings. Its active business district along Main Street has some anchor stores such as Sears and Target, but also numerous small businesses and a variety of restaurants. Hackensack also is home to Fairleigh Dickensen University and Hackensack University Medical Center, one of the finest hospitals in the country. Many medical professionals have their offices in Hackensack, along with lawyers who often do business at the courthouse or throughout the County. Transportation to NYC is available through NJ Transit by bus or by light rail on the Pascack Valley line which connects to PATH trains at Secaucus Junction, Hoboken or Jersey City.
